I bought this Stasher bag for sous vide cooking. Knowing what I know now it was a mistake. It’s impossible to get all the air out. The Stasher material is thick and the water-dunking method doesn’t do much. If you have a uniform piece of food such as steak that fills the width of the bag you can roll and squeeze most the air out. Mostly you’re just going to live without having a vacuum-sealed bag which prevents you from cooking sous-vide properly. Because there are pockets of air inside it wants to float but worse the food doesn’t heat evenly or thoroughly. This is annoying but also potentially dangerous because meat doesn’t necessarily reach a safe temperature even though your water bath does. I attempted chicken and turkey drumsticks multiple times at about 140-150F but it often wouldn’t cook even after 7-plus hours.Although it closes easily it can be a challenge to open – the trick is to pinch then pull apart at the sides and open it like a bag of chips. I don’t have a dish-washer and found it difficult to clean by hand. This is a heavy-duty and well-made product but I think the company is misleading consumers advertising it as suitable for sous-vide. Unfortunately I don’t have another product to recommend. I’m still looking for a silicone bag that’s suitable for sous vide cooking but unfortunately this isn’t it. Because it’s impossible to remove the air I wouldn’t recommend it for freezing either. But if you’re looking for a reusable silicone bag for sandwiches this might work for you.

Ich brauchte diese Größe als Ergänzung zu meinen beiden stasher bags in Sandwich-Größe. Einfach gut die Dinger. Ich nehme mein Essen mit. Und hierin transportiere ich dann auch mal platzsparend frisch und sicher ein großes Laugenbrötchen mit Rührei und vielen Kräutern. Das duftet dann abends unterwegs noch genauso frisch wie morgens früh bei der Zubereitung.Den großen 1/2 Gallon-Stasher nehme ich nun bisher nur zur Bereitung von Lachs mit Gemüsen und Kräutern. Das kann ich dann auch im stasher bag – so wie gekocht – erkalten lassen und mitnehmen.Ich bin zufrieden und habe auch kein Problem mit der Reinigung. Wenn man das am selben Tag erledigt ist der stasher immer wieder geruchlos und geschmacksfrei – fertig für den nächsten Tag.

First off after everything said and done I would buy more of these bags if they were more affordable (or I can justify using it all the time). Seals well can be used for anything. I mainly use it to marinade and sous vide. Works great for both purposes but I have two minor complaints: 1) some spice/marinade bits get stuck between the sealing folds (I hope that makes sense) and it’s hard to get them out. I think I still have a pepper flake stuck in there from several uses ago. 2) I knew this when I purchases from reading other reviews it’s a little challenging to get the air out of the bag when trying to immerse in water bath. Two complaints aside I am very willing to live with these minor inconveniences because I feel better about not throwing a plastic bag away after each use silicone bag is quite sturdy (don’t poke it with anything sharp) seals wells and relatively easy to wash (I fill it with water and a bit of soap seal and let sit. Scrub with a brush and pop in the dishwasher).I would definitely buy again. And I will buy more in other colors (as I don’t want to use the bag for raw meat with a bag I put my kids’ sandwiches in!). I do wish it would be cheaper because I can think of many more uses for it.

Washed first put in freezer with food went to defrost a few months later…and strange plastic chemical smell. Disappointed grossed out eating the food I defrosted. Positive: defrosted fast bag looks the same learned my lesson.*****Update****** decided to try the food (hungry) and I could taste the smell. Smells toxic. Wth Stasher? Mass production problem?

Great product for cooking or freezingBroke after 1 year so way too much expensive for the lenght of utilisationWrote to the company … they will send a replacement for free but only if you leave in the USyou can send your back in for recycling but it’s at your own feeCannot be repaired with ANY glueso for the price I will go back to washing high quality ziplock !
